Moundridge is one of five communities in Kansas that require a petition and city election to have a liquor store within the City Limits. Many people have considered this type of business over the years but until now, no petitions have been attempted.
Jerritt Colwell and Samantha Titus are proposing a new liquor store to be located in downtown Moundridge. They have met with the County Counselor and County Clerk to prepare the petition to request the City Council to put the question on a ballot for voters in Moundridge.
Only registered voters from the City of Moundridge can sign the petition that will be available at Hair Happening with Betty Colwell. The petitioners also plan to go door to door starting January 14th.
They will have up to 90 days to gather a total of 192 valid signatures. If they are able to meet that requirement the request would then go to the City Council to put the issue on the ballot for voters in Moundridge to decide.
