Community Work Day May 2, 2008

City Wide Garage Sales
Date:  May 3, 2008 - First Saturday in May 
Registation dates will be announced as the date gets closer.  If you have questions, please contact Deb Shaw at Goering Hardware, 345-2442, or Sandy Kaufman at Second Edition, 345-2182.  Registration forms will be available at these two businesses also.  There is a $5.00 fee.  This fee goes to printing costs of the map showing locations of the garage sales in town and advertising done in surrounding towns.  Due to downsizing by the Salvation Army they will not be doing a City Wide pick up this year.

Black Kettle Festival
Date: May 31, 2008 (First Saturday after Memorial Day)
Check back in April to see our current slate of events. We strive to add new activities each year. We are always looking for volunteers to help make this day a success!! 6th Annual Children's Fishing Derby
Date:June 7, 2008  (Saturday after Black Kettle Festival) 
Held at William P. Pack Park in the north end of Moundridge. Open to Kdg - 6th grade. Prizes given to all participants.

Homestead Trail Celebration
Homestead Trail Celebration will be held October 11, 2008 at the Cole House Museum, 402 W Cole.  Come join our commmunity celebration with activities including a bon fire, old time music and games, blacksmith, weaving and quilting demonstrations, mountain man camp, horse rides, hay rack rides, cake walk, food and everything needed for a fun filled look into the past for families.

McPherson County Historical Organizations Annual Meeting at the Wellness Center on the Memorial Home Campus, November 3 at 6:30 p.m.  Music will be furnished by Jona Baltzer and the program on Mennonite Migration to Kansas will be presented by Alice Suderman from Kauffman Museum.  Tickets are $12 each.  Contact Rosemary Fisher  620-345-8287.  Deadline for reservations is October 27!  Please plan to join us!

Old Fashioned Christmas in Moundridge
Held annually the Saturday before Thanksgiving and is Moundridge's ultimate celebration to kick off the holiday season. Surrey rides, open houses, great meals, ethnic foods, prize drawings, raffles, tours, music and entertainment. In 2000 an arts and crafts display was held at Greer auditorium. For information contact our Arts and Craft Coordinator. This has proved to be a fun time for everyone involved. Last year we had over 50 exhibitors. This event is advertised area-wide and draws visitors from Oklahoma to Nebraska and all points in between. 2008 date: November 22, 2008. Hours are 8:00 - 3:00 pm with in-store specials. There is a drawing for prizes at the end of the day. A $10 purchase from any Moundridge Merchant puts your name in hat. Winners will be notified and need not be present to win. There are bake sales scheduled through out town during these hours as well. This will be a good day to come to town and SHOP!! Pick a map to find out where the different activities are taking place.

Starlight Sale
Held annually in December. 2008 date: TBA.
Hours: 6 - 8 pm Visit Moundridge merchants for special sales during this time.

Christmas Tour of Homes
Christmastime brings many joyful events.  One date to place on your calendar is the Christmas Tour of Homes, Sunday, December 9, 2007.  Start at the beautifully decorated Krehbiel Apartments Commons Room, for your tickets.  This is located on the Memorial Home campus.  There is an 1849 Antebellum Doll House, Harlmark Christmas Tree, Apartmetn with recycled decorations and a buffet table with Christmas Goodies.  You may start at Krehbiel Apartments or any of the featured houses in the tour.  Other participating homes are located at

Tickets may be purchased anytime between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m.  Pick up your map and have a Christmas snack.  Or come back for a snack after you tour the homes.  Tickets are $5.00 ($4.00 for seniors 60 and over).  All proceedsare going to the Cradle to Crayons Child Care Center!

Outdoor Christmas Light Decorations
December 10 - 18th
. As a way to help brighten up the community, to attract visitors and promote hometown appeal, the Chamber has sponsored a house decorating contest for local residents.  Residents are asked to register with the Chamber Office.  The entrants are to have their lights on so the judges can see their display.  During this time they will be judged by an out-of-town person.  Winners will be announced before Christmas.  Prizes are provided in Chamber Bucks - gift certificates that can be redeemed at any participating Chamber merchant. But the real prizes belong to those who drive out and marvel at the displays.

Annual Rabies Clinic- to be held January 10, 2009 at the City Street Shop located at 215 S Christian. (Building just north of the city office) Clinic is held from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm
City Ordinance 720 requires ALL DOGS within the city be tagged & carry a current rabie vaccination certificate as of January 1st each year and shall be paid no later than 60 days thereafter. City tags are $3.00 per dog.
Becky Dillon of Maple STreet Veterinary will be giving the shots.
If you have had your dog vaccinated by your own vet, please bring a copy of your CURRENT "Rabies Certficate" when you come to purchase your dog tag(s) for us to keep on file. Office hours are 8-12 and 1-5 Monday through Friday.
